「妹」The Sisters
ある子ども（でももう子どもだとは思われたくない年齢にはなっている）
の親しくしていた貧しい神父が亡くなってその死体にお祈りをするとき
その妹の祈りが邪魔になって集中できない。
I noticed how clumsily her skirt was hooked at the back
and
how the heels of her cloth boots were. The fancy came to
me
that the old priest was smiling as he lay there in his
coffin.

ある少女に熱烈に密かに恋している少年が街の雑踏を通っているときに
突然恋ゆえの妄想がわきあがってくる。
These noise converged in a single sensation of life for
me:
I imagined that I bore my chalice safely through a throng
of foes. Her name sprang to my lips at moments in strange
prayers and praises which I myself did not understand.
